If you love our country as I do, yesterday must have been gut-wrenching. In my mind, it was a culmination of what has been happening for all of 2020.

Last year started just as 2019 finished with the economy on a tear, unemployment at an all-time low, minorities making huge gains in both income and employment and a general feeling that we were about to bridge some of the enormous gaps that had grown over the past several years. And then, the coronavirus landed on our shores and in less than a year it all came crumbling down. Regardless of which side of the aisle you stand on, this cannot be good.

Now it seems we are more divided than ever and about to find out what a unified national government in Washington DC under a democratic administration with promises of radical changes will affect all of us. To quote a recent politician, “Elections have consequences” and we are facing a time in our country where bipartisan cooperation is needed more than ever.

Over the two and one-half centuries our country has existed, we have overcome so many problems that could have brought us down. And, of course, nothing was as big an issue as the civil war. Through it all Americans have always seemed to reach back and get the courage and strength to deal with it. It was once said that Americans always seem to get it wrong until they finally get it right. Jean and I are praying that we finally get it right.

(I’m going to close this with the same close from this week’s earlier email.)

So, as we move forward into 2021, let’s commit to work on the issues we have some control over. Life comes at us all and there’s not much we can do about it. It’s how we respond to these life issues that sets up apart. Remember, life does not travel in a straight line and it’s how we respond to the bumps that can set us apart from the crowd.

Stay safe and, as always, should you have any questions or wish to speak with me, please call or email so we can put something on the calendar.
