(Quote from Chuck Swindell, Leading theologian)
After a wild week, the Dow 30, the Dow Transports, and the S&P all forged new highs.
“Taxes” remain the main threat to the economy and the stock market.
If you aren’t in “Quality,” you may be in for a rude awakening.
After reviewing some of President Biden’s news conference (if you could call it that after 4 years of Trump news conferences), there is little doubt that our taxes are going up. How much and who will be affected remains to be seen. Equity markets seemed to like the news as the S&P, the Dow 30 and the Dow Transports hit new highs.
I highlighted the last bullet point to show the need for quality in portfolios investing for the long haul. Well established companies with stock buyback programs and increasing dividends are stocks to buy and hold. Some of the holdings have a long history of doing just this. The global economy keeps changing. Technology keeps changing, often at a lighting speed. Markets go up and down always around a constantly rising trendline.
Right now, the talking heads and the wizards of smarts are using the tag line “What to do if … (fill in the blank), currently increasing taxes and inflation. Next week, the panic line of the day might be something totally different. So, the portfolio managers I recommend continue to stay the course investing in quality companies that provide an income that has grown over time.
I’m probably still recovering from the sudden death of my best friend. The ripples are starting to become known as there are unanswered questions concerning his estate. Therefore, the theme has been to make sure your documents are all in order. The article attached is an added layer to help make sure that what we want done with our passing and what actually gets done are one in the same.
Finally, should you have any questions or wish to meet/talk, just call or email me and we can schedule a time.
Remember, the only choice is optimism, the pessimists never get it right.
